However, after Tunghai University was ruled by the president of the Kuomintang in the 1970s, the strong Kuomintang "party-state culture" shrouded the whole school, and its legacy still lingers on the Tunghai campus to this day. After democratized Taiwan ousted the Kuomintang in the 2000 election, the Kuomintang went from being "anti-communist" to "pro-communist" overnight. economic and cultural relations. Tunghai University immediately followed suit and began to focus on "cross-strait cultural exchanges", ignoring the Chinese autocracy on the other side. The Chinese Kuomintang came to Taiwan to rule for 63 years (1945-2000; 2008-2016).
